Our Registered Physiotherapists Will Help Get You Back in Action

For your first visit, you will complete a detailed assessment with one of our physiotherapists that will include strength and range of motion testing as well as posture, gait and balance analysis. Our goal is to get you back in tip-top shape for work, sports and everything in between. We create a custom recovery program that utilizes a variety of techniques that are designed to decrease pain, increase joint mobility and strength, restore normal function, optimize recovery and prevent future injury.

Physiotherapy for Improved Mobility

Our physiotherapists use a combination of hands-on treatments and other therapeutic modalities to promote healing, improve range of motion, increase nerve and muscle function, reduce pain and decrease inflammation, including:

Injury Pathology Education

At Aurora Physiotherapy, we understand that education about your injury is imperative to your recovery. We use a team approach to educate you on your body’s functioning to help you improve your recovery and avoid future injury.

Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is a method of balancing your body’s energy by inserting small needles under the skin at specific points along energy pathways to prevent or repair disease and decrease pain and inflammation. It can be used alone or in conjunction with other forms of therapy to improve energy and biochemical balance – ultimately promoting your body’s natural healing abilities. Contact us today to see if acupuncture is the right fit for you.

dry NEEDLING

Dry Needling facilitates relaxation and release in trigger points or tight bands in a muscle.

VESTIBULAR REHAB THERAPY (VRT)

Vestibular dysfunction can result in dizziness, vertigo, imbalance and falls. VRT can improve symptoms related to many vestibular disorders.

TAPING FOR ATHLETIC INJURIES & SPRAINS

At Aurora Physiotherapy, we offer therapeutic taping to help correct anatomical abnormalities and prevent recurring dysfunction of muscles and joints. We offer Kinesio Tape, Spider Tech and an assortment of other athletic tapes. Taping offers several benefits, including support and stabilization for muscles and joints and reducing pain. Tape can also help to limit or correct posture by unloading stress. Go one step further by getting fitted for a custom brace.

PERSONAL EXERCISE PROGRAMS

We encourage our patients to take an active role in their recovery through the use of home exercise programs. Our physiotherapists and exercise specialists work with you one-on-one to develop an exercise program that is tailored to your specific condition and includes detailed instructions, demonstrations, supervised observation and pictures to ensure you are doing them correctly. We can further customize your exercise program by incorporating exercises that mimic movements you frequently use at work or while playing sports so that you can return to your regular activities faster. We carry a large selection of cost-effective home rehabilitation products, such as exercise balls, resistance bands and exercise mats.

WE SELL REHAB PRODUCTS FOR BACK AND NECK PAIN, EXERCISE AND MORE

We sell a wide range of high-quality rehabilitation products that you can use at home to aid you in your current rehabilitation program. Here are some of the products and equipment that are available for purchase at our clinic:

  • Mediflow pillow
The Mediflow pillow has a layer of water at the base that conforms to fit and support your neck. Adjusting the amount of water allows you to customize its firmness.
  • Tri-core pillow
This pillow has a valley in the middle, making it ideal for back or side-sleepers. The high resiliency of the fibres helps the pillow bounce back after each use to deliver durable comfort while properly supporting your neck.
  • Sitback mesh lumbar back support
The mesh fabric on the Sitback mesh lumbar back support helps relieve lower back pain by conforming to your body for uniformed support. It also allows for comfortable airflow to keep you happy all day.
  • Backrest lumbar support
This lumbar support is designed with a moderate lumbar curve to support your lower back and extends up to also support the mid-back. An elastic strap and buckle help secure the support in place, while the medical fabric helps increase airflow to the back for increased comfort.
  • BandIT therapeutic forearm band
The BandIT therapeutic forearm band helps reduce stress on your forearm tendons and muscles. It aids in the relief and prevention of pain associated with many workplace and recreational forearm injuries.
  • DonJoy® knee brace
This custom-fitted knee brace is made with strong yet light materials to provide extreme comfort.
  • TheraBand™ FlexBar
The TheraBand FlexBar is a flexible resistance tool used to help strengthen grip and upper extremities through bending, curling and distorting movements. It is a great way of working on persistent issues such as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis).
  • Fitness mats
We have soft exercise mats available to help you do floor exercises at home without the discomfort of working out on a hard floor. They are easy to roll up, snap tightly for compact storage and are equipped with a carrying strap for portability.
  • Exercise balls
Exercise balls are perfect for exercising any body part. They provide great core and postural stabilization that machines at the gym often neglect. Exercise balls are also easy to use in a variety of ways without spending too much money. Our exercise specialists can develop a customized core program for you using only your body weight, an exercise mat and an exercise ball!
  • Compression socks
Compression socks are special garments designed to increase venous return and circulation in the lower extremities. Almost anyone can benefit from compression stockings, including people who stand or sit for prolonged periods, those with tired, aching legs, swollen feet and ankles, varicose veins as well as expectant mothers. People love the way compression stockings make their legs feel and appreciate wearing them even without serious medical conditions. Compression hosiery is often covered by most extended health insurance plans.
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
TENS is a small, battery-operated machine that delivers a low-level, painless current of electricity. The TENS pads are placed on your skin over a painful area. The current from the machine sends signals to the nerves under the skin, which blocks some pain signals in the spine and helps the body to produce its pain relief chemicals called endorphins. It can also be used to help reduce muscle spasticity, swelling or even to help build strength in weak or injured muscles!
